Our journey turns total beginners into confident players in three simple steps. First, start in the Never Ever League. Here, you will master fundamentals with supportive coaching. Next, move into the I-League. This lets you apply your skills in guided game situations. Finally, you can continue into ongoing adult league play when you are ready.

This is the playbook that outlines your journey from your first time on the ice to joining an organized adult recreational hockey team.
STEP #1: LEARNING TO ICE SKATE
Skating 101 Program
Skating 101 is the recommended first step for any adult. This is true even if you are interested in playing hockey but have no prior ice skating experience.
This 8-week program provides a solid, fundamental understanding of crucial skating skills. Specifically, it builds the confidence and proficiency necessary for a positive first experience on the ice. This is important when you eventually put on hockey equipment.
Skating 101 is an all-ages program. However, participating adults are exclusively grouped with other adults.
Adults who start with some skating experience learn the game of hockey faster once they advance. Therefore, completing Skating 101 is recommended. This is not a requirement, but it will help you before you enroll in our next step: the Never Ever League.

STEP #2: THE INTRODUCTION TO HOCKEY
THE NEVER EVER LEAGUE
The Never Ever League (NEL) is the most successful adult beginner hockey program in the United States. Crucially, it is designed exclusively for adults over 18 who have never stepped onto the ice before.
Since launching in 2012, we’ve empowered over 3,500 successful graduates. In fact, we create a co-ed, non-checking, and genuinely judgment-free atmosphere. This is where hesitation is replaced by confidence. We believe everyone deserves the chance to experience the speed and camaraderie of hockey. Therefore, our program is built by and for the absolute beginner.
Our acclaimed 11-week program provides a structured, comprehensive path. You will transform from a novice to a confident player. The curriculum is carefully balanced. Initially, we dedicate two weeks entirely to mastering skating skills. These are the foundation of the game. Next, we progress into essential individual skills like stick handling and shooting. Finally, we introduce team concepts.
This powerful blend of instruction (80% focus) and safe, instructional game time (20% focus) ensures maximum learning and enjoyment. Our dedicated coaching staff specializes in teaching adults. Consequently, they foster the supportive community that has made the NEL a nationally recognized movement.

STEP #3: THE INTRODUCTION TO BEING ON A TEAM
THE I-LEAGUE
You’ve successfully graduated from the Never Ever League and found your passion. Now, it's time to drastically accelerate your development.
The I-League (Instructional League) is the crucial next step for adult players. These players want to bridge the gap between learning fundamentals and mastering game-specific skills. This league is designed specifically for NEL graduates and adults who started hockey later in life. Crucially, the I-League provides the vital, instantaneous coaching that traditional adult leagues simply don't offer.
Each session runs for a full hour on the ice. They feature a powerful blend of activities. Typically, this includes two pure practice sessions focused on individual skill development. It also includes controlled game scrimmages.
The key feature is the real-time coaching provided directly from the bench during game play. Indeed, this is an invaluable teaching mechanism. It is usually reserved for players who learned as children. This combination of dedicated instruction and immediate, in-game feedback ensures constant development. You will improve both individual technique and high-level team concepts.
