Rochester Scores Big: Youth Hockey Tournament to Bring $1.3M Boost This Weekend

Monroe County is set for a major economic boost this weekend as over 2,000 visitors arrive for a premier youth hockey tournament. The Rochester Fall Classic, organized by MyHockey Tournaments, will take over local rinks from October 10-12, turning a weekend of youth sports into a significant win for the community.

The event, hosted at Tim Hortons Iceplex, is expected to generate more than $1.3 million in economic activity for the region. This influx of players, coaches, and their families translates directly into busy hotels, packed restaurants, and increased sales at local shops and attractions.

A Premier Destination for Youth Sports
This weekend’s tournament will feature 42 teams, highlighting Rochester’s growing reputation as a hub for sports tourism. A remarkable 30 of these teams are traveling from across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, with families coming from Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware, and other parts of New York State.

This strong out-of-town draw is the first of six major hockey tournaments MyHockey Tournaments will bring to Rochester during the 2025-26 season, promising a sustained positive impact on the local economy throughout the fall and winter.

A Winning Partnership for the Community
Local leaders are celebrating the event’s dual benefit—providing a competitive stage for young athletes while simultaneously supporting the Rochester community.

“We are thrilled to kick off another exciting hockey season by hosting the Rochester Fall Classic,” said Chris Woodworth, Executive Director of Tim Hortons Iceplex. “Events like these are not only fantastic for the young athletes but also for our entire community. We look forward to welcoming the players and their families and showcasing all that Rochester has to offer.”

The successful partnership between Tim Hortons Iceplex and MyHockey Tournaments, the largest youth hockey tournament organizer in the U.S., continues to flourish. The decision to host multiple events in the area reflects the warm welcome and strong support from Rochester’s hospitality industry, which has fully embraced ice hockey tourism.
