More Than a Game: 3rd Annual Guardian’s Cup Taking Place This Weekend

ROCHESTER, NY — The ice is ready, the brackets are set, and the mission has never been more clear. From March 6th to 8th, Tim Hortons Iceplex will host the 3rd Annual Guardian’s Cup, a charitable hockey tournament that has rapidly evolved from a local fundraiser into a premier regional destination for first responders and military veterans.

Since its inception, the Guardian’s Cup has been defined by explosive growth. This year is no exception: the tournament has expanded to 32 teams—nearly tripling in size since year one—with 22 teams traveling from out of town to compete in Rochester.

To accommodate the influx of talent, the tournament now features four distinct divisions: Competitive, Recreational “C,” Recreational “D,” and the dedicated Warrior Division for military veterans.

Honoring the Red, White, and Blue

While the competition on the ice will be fierce, the heart of the weekend lies in its tribute to service. This year’s event takes on a special historical significance as we look toward the USA’s 250th Anniversary.

The public is encouraged to pack the stands for the Official Opening Ceremony on Friday, March 6th at 5:00 PM in the Feature Arena. In a stirring display of pageantry, the Keystone Pipes & Drums will present the colors and perform a musical tribute to our Military and the nation’s milestone anniversary before the opening face-off. It is a moment of unity and reflection that sets the tone for the entire weekend.

Hockey with a Purpose: Supporting NYLEAP

Beyond the goals and saves, every dollar raised during the Guardian’s Cup supports the New York Law Enforcement Assistance Program (NYLEAP). To date, this event has raised over $18,000 to provide confidential mental health resources, trauma support, and suicide prevention training for law enforcement, fire, EMS, and their families.

Join Us at the Rink

The Guardian’s Cup is free for the public to attend all weekend long. Fans can expect high-level hockey, family-friendly activities, and appearances by local mascots Moose and Hawk. Attendees can also support the cause by participating in 50/50 drawings and themed raffles located in the Iceplex concourse.
